Terms of Use

These Terms of Use govern access to Virginia Criminal History. Visiting a page, viewing its material, or using a search function constitutes acceptance of every condition below. Anyone who does not agree with these terms must stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. Virginia Criminal History is privately owned and has no affiliation with a federal, state, or local government body. Neither the website nor its advertising partners provides a service for credit decisions, employment screening, tenant screening, insurance underwriting, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The website is a Virginia criminal-record reference resource, not a private investigation firm or a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference website operating independently of government. It does not hold official criminal records and cannot retrieve records, conduct an official check, or submit documents for a visitor.

Its purpose is to identify Virginia custodians, including the Virginia State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, the Virginia Department of Corrections, the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry, state courts, and agencies within the project's 107 counties and independent cities. It also connects users with outside research tools. Virginia FOIA, Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to qualifying government records, while CCRE dissemination remains limited by Code § 19.2-389.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Each user agrees not to:

  • Use bots, scraping software, or another automated process on the pages
  • Disrupt website performance or interfere with access by other users
  • Attempt to enter restricted systems or obtain unauthorized access

  • Rely on website content for a housing, hiring, lending, or insurance decision
  • Violate federal, Virginia, or local law while using the website

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No information found here or through a linked tool may be used to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or discriminate against another person. Such conduct is prohibited and may also violate criminal law. Virginia Code § 9.1-918 specifically forbids unauthorized registry use and use intended to intimidate or harass. The Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry supports lawful public-safety awareness. It does not authorize vigilantism, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Virginia Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. Neither it nor its advertising partners creates a credit report, consumer report, or background check designed for reviewing job applicants or rental applications, setting insurance prices, or evaluating credit. Information from the website or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Make a credit decision or establish an insurance premium
  • Evaluate a prospective renter or housing applicant
  • Make an employment, hiring, or termination decision
  • Serve any other purpose governed by the FCRA

A check for an FCRA-regulated purpose must be obtained through an authorized Virginia State Police channel or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Website material is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how Virginia law on a warrant, charge, conviction, expungement, or sealing applies to a specific matter. A licensed Virginia attorney should be consulted for individual legal guidance.

6. No Warranties

All website content is supplied "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • A partner's search results will be complete or correct
  • The pages contain no errors, defects, or security weaknesses
  • The website will remain continuously available
  • All information is accurate, complete, and current

Virginia criminal records can change when charges are filed or dismissed and when records are corrected, expunged, or sealed. Updates may not appear here at once. Website content is never an official statement from Virginia State Police, a court, a sheriff, or another government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Those destinations are beyond our control. We are not responsible for their availability, content, prices, or data practices. Their own terms should be reviewed before use.
